Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a diploma in English Literature. Mitchell started her career as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. She joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. In the following two years, she became a general correspondent at NBC News in Washington. She started covering the White House in 1981 and was named chief correspondent for the congressional office within the year 1988. She was promoted to the Chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as the chief of the Foreign Affairs department at NBC News. Mitchell has been as a guest on TV news show Meet the Press as a panelist as well as host. Mitchell was a panelist in the 1988 presidential debates involving George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan who was the ex-chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell was awarded the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and in 2004 The Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) recognized Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her work in the defense and protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering at the White House in 1981-1988 for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's second term as president. Mitchell reported on a variety of important stories, including the Iran-contra controversy and tax reform. Mitchell traveled with President Ronald Reagan throughout his numerous trips to summits around the world and covered frequently.
